Invitation SACG Seminar: The future of U.S. e-com legislation 17 June 2021
The future of U.S. e-com legislation
SACG Seminar – Thursday 17 June 2021 at 15:00-16:00 CEST – online via Teams Klicka här för att delta i mötet.
Following our seminars on the Digital Services Act (DSA) in the EU, we invite to a new seminar dedicated to the parallel revisions of U.S. platform governance and its implications for future anti-counterfeiting and consumer protection.
On 13 November 2020, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) published a request for public input regarding secondary liability standards for e-commerce platforms. More specifically the USPTO asked for comments on contributory trademark liability for platforms when it comes to third-party sales of counterfeit products. In addition, new e-commerce acts such as the Shop Safe Act and the Inform Consumers Act are currently being debated in the U.S. Congress and Senate.
During the seminar we will hear from three U.S. experts about the current state of the discussions, the content of the proposed legislations, recent case law, and future implications for brands and professionals in the field. We will also discuss the link between the U.S. revisions and the European DSA. Our speakers for the seminar are:
Jennifer Blank – Attorney-Advisor, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
Christina Mitropoulos – Director, Brand Protection & Manufacturing Initiatives, American Apparel and Footwear Association
Mark Sommers – Partner and Litigator, Finnegan’s Washington office
Måns Sjöstrand – Global Head of IP & Brand Protection, Daniel Wellington
